Collaborative Commissions
Two heirloom chairs were delivered home to a happy customer, and cat approved! The finished results are the culmination of a joyful and thoughtful collaboration with my clients: from selecting the A.R.T. fabric and choosing a colorway that reflected their desire to add color and light, and tie in with their surroundings and home, to carefully deconstructing the chair and replacing the worn spring system, to building up a firm but luxurious foundation for comfort and wear, to meticulously placing the pattern of the top fabric and finishing details.
"Before"
The botanical fabric on my client's chairs was worn from years of good use. The spring system had collapsed and the cushions and padding needed to be replaced.

Blue Herons in watercolor create an undulating pattern on the back and front of this statement chair. Gold velvet draped over the table and adorning the back of the Deer and Pyracantha cushion exaggerates the ostentatious proportions of the chair. Found linen curtains ground the vignette, and bridge these playful pieces with the natural setting of the bird window in a relaxed space.
Patterns and Motifs can be scaled for different applications. The small herons undulating down the chair highlight the movement of the pattern itself, while the large herons on the oversized down cushion create drama and highlight the details of the birds.
I chose to make the back of this piece as arresting as the front. The tall vertical arch perfectly displays the undulating pattern of the birds.
Fighting green anole lizards and pineapples (Pineappanoles) add sass and pure fun to the stately frame of this vanity bench. I couldn't resist purchasing the "eye pads" to go with -- they were meant to be!

The bold Possomdillo pattern ties two separate pieces into one playful chaise. When I saw the claw feet on the chair, I knew it needed to be upholstered with clawed creatures! The Haitian jungle animals in Francis Paraison's painting have found good company.
