I love to create little vignettes that you can literally walk into, literally live in, and that got me thinking: these real vignettes can also be figurative, and why not make both? My recent focus has been bound and embroidered in "Collage Boudoir," a caricature of sensual feminine repose. See, and do.
I love the outcome so much, that I have decided to make this part of my regular process. I have a list of contenders for the next collage -- a different vignette, different setting, in real and figurative forms, featuring different A.R.T. textile designs. I am looking forward to sharing the process with you!

Lovely to see so many people of all ages, happy dogs on parade, gorgeous arts and crafts vendors, in such a pretty setting. Thanks to Tallahassee Nurseries for the event and letting me be a part of it. Thanks, Dad, for your van and battery that powered all of our devices. Thanks, Emily for bringing us bags for our customers. Thank you to everyone who bought something from me -- your support means I get to keep going with this work that I love so much and be able to share it with you. Thanks, Lizzie, for your help and willingness to jump into something brand new! My most profound thanks to Matt and Oliver, who astound me with their patience, encouragement, and stamina -- how, how did I get so lucky?
Remember Disney's "Snow White?" Remember Disney's "Snow White?" My home, with all of the creatures running around outside my window, often reminds me of the woodland scene with Snow White and all of her lovely wild woodland friends. But, I am no Snow White. My own character feels a bit more Brothers Grimm or Hans Christian Andersen than Disney adaptation. And, why is one either a princess or a witch? These are really just ageist characterizations... Anyway.... I continue to create, and make a mountain of pretty offerings, and they are just piling up as I fret about how and when to send them out into the wild world. I Whistle While I Work, and Someday, My Shop will Come, Someday, My Shop Will Come...

Anyway, I have been working on some new patterns, and here is one of the finished additions -- Bluejay Blueberry. I plan to come up with a whole line of patterns connecting our garden fruits and vegetables to the wildlife we grow it for (ehhem).

The finished results are the culmination of a joyful and thoughtful collaboration with my clients: from selecting the A.R.T. fabric and choosing a colorway that reflected their desire to add color and light, and tie in with their surroundings and home, to carefully deconstructing the chair and replacing the worn spring system, to building up a firm but luxurious foundation for comfort and wear, to meticulously placing the pattern of the top fabric and finishing details.

My boys are growing up in a flash, and will be out of the nest soon, which makes me cling to these sweet holiday moments with them even more! In the second week of January, I had eye surgery, and I just can't wait to see and get back at it again. The recovery process is slower than I'd like, and I have a full lineup of incredible projects for the New Year, so I am more than a little bit antsy! Before surgery, I did recover this sweet little bench, with my Hummingbird and Datura fabric, and worked on some of my new designs for 2024. Happy New Year, and I can't wait to share it all with you!
During the December break, I took time to work on a little personal project -- this Ottoman, reupholstered with my Hummingbird and Datura fabric. All that's left to do is to paint the rest of her pretty green feet, and she will be finished.

I love to reupholster ottomans, as they are perfect small canvases for showcasing my fabric designs. I have amassed quite a collection of them, enough that I thought it might be fun to rename my business, "The Ottoman Empire." I have mixed feelings about this, but mostly, I find it a bit silly, and will continue to reupholster ottomans with abandon. Pretty things.
It was a glorious, perfect fall day at Artisans in the Garden on November 4th. I had so much fun meeting people and sharing my work! I am so thankful for my family, who were my steadfast helpers from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.!

My client would like for me to reupholster her chairs in my original blue and yellow Goldenrod and Mahonia pattern, but needed the colors adjusted to fit her existing décor. After our consultation, I developed a color palette from the flowers blooming in her own window garden, and incorporated some warm neutrals and bright whites to complement her space. She wants a fabric that will best stand up to pets, as well as lots of love and use. I ordered swatches of the various colorways in a family friendly, durable linen-look fabric, so that she can see what the fabric will look like on her chairs, and in her living room.
If you love an A.R.T. design, but are trying to figure out how it will fit with your décor, I offer consultation and customization services to suit.
Lots of colorful cushions ready for Gabriela's new living and guest rooms, featuring Pileated Woodpeckers on a "minty midcentury" background (rugged and durable cotton canvas) , Hummingbird, Coral Honeysuckle and Datura on deep blue (linen-cotton canvas) and Deer and Pyracantha on goldenrod yellow (linen-cotton canvas).
A.R.T. designs can be applied to fabric, upholstery, home décor, accessories, signs, logos, and more. See some examples of my designs in a variety of applications.
Floorcloths are A.R.T.'s beginning and Raison Dêtre. Learn about my processs of making floorcloths in my North Florida home studio, from conception to finished, walkable works of original art.
My floorcloths are durable, decorative floorcoverings -- art you can walk on. They are made from canvas, acrylic primers and paints, and sealed with polyacylic. Lighter than a rug and cleanable with a damp cloth or mop, they are an excellent choice for a bold statement on hardwood or concrete floors. In the 1700s, Floorcloths were painted with oil paints, and sealed with linseed oil. Almost always decorative, they were common in colonial homes, and often imitated grand marble palace tiles, or featured nautical or pastoral motifs and geometric designs.
I love to make beautiful cushions and reupholster small furniture pieces with my fabrics! Thoughtful pattern placement and attention to detail are incredibly important to me. I am constantly developing my skills, and would also be happy to help you find a specialized craftsperson who can apply my fabric designs to your furniture, home decor, and window treatments.
